Day 5 - Foot Reflexology

What does a normal couple do on a Saturday date night?  Why, we went driving around looking for interesting neon signs!  Actually, we decided to leave our neighborhood and go out to dinner, so of course I brought my camera with me so I wouldn't have to go out alone later on!  After we ate (sadly the Vietnamese restaurant we ate at had no neon), we drove around trying to find something interesting.  Actually we saw quite a few neon signs, and we dutifully committed their locations to memory as we sped by, in the middle of heavy traffic!

We finally pulled into a small strip mall and saw this sign in a storefront window.  The business was closed of course, with very dim lighting within.  The sign was pretty high up, and I couldn't raise my camera high enough to try to minimize the neon reflection in the window.  I tried shooting several over my head, but the results were less than spectacular, so there is a lot of displaced reflection of the letters and shapes.  There is no reflection on the bottom of the word reflexology because the ledge of the window was there, cutting it off.

I hope you enjoy the little round toesies as much as I did!

  3. Orange County, California is a vast area, with a large and varied population that has very interesting taste in neon!

  5. You could have invited your taller "escort" to snap a pic and see if that eliminated some of the reflection....or does he mainly photograph his own index finger, as my "escort" always does?

  6. It truly tickles me how they used a comic style font and how cartoony the feet are. Great find, and fun husband to go around on the hunt with you!

  7. I like that little hint of reflection on the window, it gives it depth. Its a super cute sign too.

  8. That's so cute. I love how the big toe is so much bigger than the others, and the red writing reflections don't bother me at all, because they are always part of how a neon sign looks, since so many are mounted in front of or behind glass. Good find!

  10. I like it that the sign says reflexology and that you can see a reflection behind the sign.

  12. I love how the reflections add more life and motion to the sign.

  13. How cute are those toesies! I was wondering how you managed to shoot the signs as if you were at eye-level with them instead of them hanging high above. Is a simple arm raising all you have to do or do you stand on something, or use a zoom lens?
